Diane E. Current

February 9, 2016

Diane Ellen Current, age 72, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2016.  Diane was born on March 14, 1943, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the daughter of Lester W. and Mildred E. (Lueders) Heck.  She met David H. Current while they were both students at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and they married on June 11, 1966, in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.

Shortly after her marriage, Diane moved to Mt. Pleasant when David joined the faculty of Central Michigan University in the Department of Physics.  During her time in Mt. Pleasant, Diane was active in many organizations.  She participated in multiple book groups as well as contract and duplicate bridge groups, and was an active member of PTAs, the League of Women Voters, CMU Women, and Friends of Veterans Memorial Library.

She had a lifelong interest in education at all levels, and she taught college mathematics as well as computer programming and chess to children.  She was known as an avid reader, a pianist, and a player of tennis and table tennis.  She enjoyed taking hikes and walks through nature, identifying wildflowers, plants, and birds.  She was a gardener, and she enjoyed sewing as well.

A memorial service celebrating Diane's life will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 4 p.m. at Rowley Funeral Home with Rev. Nancy Casey Fulton officiating.  Friends may gather with the family on Saturday from 2-4 p.m. at the funeral home.  Interment will take place beside David in Mount Vernon Cemetery (Iowa) at a later date.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the CMU David and Diane Current Family Physics Summer Program Endowment, the CMU David H. Current Scholarship Endowment, or to Veterans Memorial Library.  Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Survivors include two sons, Michael of La Crosse, Wisconsin, and Daniel of Shoreview, Minnesota; a brother, Gerald (Kathleen) Heck, and a sister, Marjorie (Gene) Kreienbrink; and six nieces and four nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband (2009).
